JOMO - The Joy of Missing Out

boundaries energy level Sep 23, 2025

There was a time when social media felt fresh, fun, and full of possibility. It was a way to reconnect with old friends, share snapshots of everyday life, and celebrate milestones together. Back then, it felt like a gift. Somewhere along the way, it became less about connection and more about comparison, conflict, and noise.

I’ve thought about stepping away from social media before. The thing that always stopped me? FOMO. Fear of Missing Out. What if I didn’t see the announcement, the update, the event? What if I missed something important?

The truth is, social media has a way of pulling us in and leaving us unsettled. It can stir up anxiety, or keep us scrolling through stories built more on drama than on truth - and that kind of energy wears on us. It’s no wonder so many of us walk away from the screen feeling drained instead of connected.

And if you’ve ever felt that way, it’s okay to step back. Giving yourself space from the noise isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. It’s choosing peace over pressure, clarity over confusion.

I’m not sticking my head in the sand. My account will still be live. My posts and blogs will still go up on a regular basis. But the endless scrolling, the likes, the emojis, the constant tug of sadness, frustration, and energy drain—that part has to go.

It’s time to stop giving some of our best hours to something that takes more than it gives. Let's go back to the real connections...the ones that fill us with hope, happiness and joy.

So, I’m taking a step back. Choosing to keep social media for what it can do well: sharing my business updates and offering encouragement, without letting it drain the rest of life. And choosing, for now, to let go of FOMO—and maybe even discover a little JOMO: the Joy of Missing Out.
